2016-08 Confcall Meeting Minutes

OpenPaaS WP2 - Monthly Meeting (July-August, 2016)

(due to difficulty to setup a confcall with all partners during summer period, this "reporting" was done by email)

Next Deliverables:

  • T0+18: L2.9 - Implementation of the Realtime Engine / Implantation du moteur temps-réel (v1) [software]
  • T0+24: L2.2 - Implementation of the Peer-to-Peer Hybrid Replication Middleware / Implantation du composant middleware de réplication hybride pair-à-pair (v1) [report]
  • T0+24: L2.3 - Specification of the Trust Service / Spécification du service de confiance [report]
  • T0+24: L2.5 - Specification of the Inter-organizational Replication Middleware / Spécification du composant middleware inter-organisationnel (v2) [report]
  • T0+24: L2.10 - Implementation of the Realtime Engine / Implantation du moteur temps-réel (v2) [software]

Work in Progress

LORIA

  • Netflux improvements:
    • bug fixes
    • support for large messages (up to 8MB)
    • support for binary messages (ArrayBuffer, Uint8Array, etc.)
  • Chrome extension for providing a embedded signaling server
  • Preliminary bot integration (aka peer machine)
?????* Work in progress related to trust management and distributed security:?????
    • We investigate the issue of computing a trust score for each user according to his/her contributions during a collaborative task. In the context of trust game we proposed a trust metric that reflects user behaviors during the collaboration. This metric is robust against fluctuating user behavior. A paper on this topic was accepted at TrustCom 2016 and will be presented in August during this conference.
    • In the context of large scale collaboration involving many users, we investigate whether providing users a trust score reflecting the quality of past contributions of their partners could replace knowing their identity. The user studies we organised in the context of trust game show that in small scale settings knowing partner trust score is at least as useful as knowing his/her identity.
    • We pursue our investigations on providing a distributed authentication mechanism for multi-organisation environments. We study the CONIKS  system offering a privacy-protected key server with automated end-user key verification and Ethereum an open blockchain platform and the possibility of combining them.
  • Collaboration with Linagora on federation/interorganizational aspects:
    • distributed test infrastructure on top of Grid'5000
    • end-to-end test using selenium
    • reproducible experiments (automated process, docker images, etc)

Next Steps

  • Plan the writing of the L2.9 deliverable:
    • As L2.9 is a software deliverable (Implementation of the Realtime Engine), I propose to associate a short document that describes:
      • LogootSplit - Conflict-free Replicated Datatype that provides a sequence data structure whose granularity of changes is variable
      • CryptPAD - Blockchain-based consensus combined with operational transformation
      • blockchain-based distributed consensus algorithm
      • HyperXXX?
      • Something else?

LORIA:

  • continue to work on hybrid peer-to-peer broadcast mechanisms (targetting T0+24)
  • continue to work on trust management approaches (targetting T0+24)
